Blogomanen am Abgrund
Zwei US-amerikanische Blogomanen strecken die Fahnen. Nicht wirklich eine Nachricht, aber eine interessante Beobachtung. 
Frank Catalano verkündet "Blog no more"! Weil: zu viel Arbeit, zu wenige Leser, zu sehr wie Selbstbefriedigung. Zudem fand er sich in zweifelhafter Gesellschaft wieder. Wie wahr.
Writing is not really writing without third-party validation and an audience. Validation comes in the form of filters. Editors who want to take a risk with your stuff in their publication. Publishers who are willing to pay you for it. Essentially, people who think it's worth their reputation and pocketbook to have others hear what you have to say.
Whitney Pastorek sieht in der "Blogosphere" sogar den Ruin ihres sozialen Lebens (und bestätigt das Klischee der ich-bezogenen jungen Amerikanerin): "Did I mention that blogs are ruining my life?" Seit es Blogs gibt, erscheinen die Leute nicht mehr zu Einladungen, man erzählt ihr nichts mehr (wurde ja alles schon gebloggt), man streitet nicht mehr (sondern streicht einander aus der Blogroll).
Something is going horribly wrong, and I have finally traced the problem to its source: blogs. Or, more specifically, the Blogosphere—a land where the smart get smarter, the connected connect to one another, and the losers go home.
Andere Blogger kontern mutig: Künstler schreiben primär für sich selbst, das muss auch dem Blogophilen reichen. Das meint zumindest der Zeitungs-Editor Tom Mangan:
If writing is an art, and artists create for themselves, why does it matter if anybody sees it? What the guy really means is that his blog is available to the whole wide world but only a couple dozen people are seeing it, and this makes him feel small and his efforts seem pointless.
Wenn die Blog-Umgebung tatsächlich eine "Blogosphere" sein sollte, ist sie übrigens innen verspiegelt. Ich meine ja nur. Ich versuche seit mehreren Monaten, mich für Blogs zu begeistern, und habe immer noch nicht begriffen: Was ist eine Blogroll? Was soll Trackback? Und ein Permalink, ziept das -- wie eine Dauerwelle? (Jaja, ich weiß. Würde ich c't lesen...)
Vorschläge für eine Einteilung:
- blogophil: jemand, der Blogs gut findet.
- blogophob: jemand, der Blogs aus Prinzip, nicht aus Wissen, ablehnt.
- blogoman: jemand, der viel zu viel Zeit mit Blogs verbringt (schreibend oder lesend).
Ich bin blogoskeptisch.
