Abstract
The Enterprise Portal market as it was traditionally understood has matured over the last five years. Portals have served well as thin layers for integrating enterprise applications into a unified presentation framework. However, now such functionality is assumed, and meanwhile, our expectations of web-based applications have evolved.
In this presentation, we will examine the increased expectations portals face in the areas of content management, collaboration, and web 2.0 for the enterprise. Although these are buzzwords, in fact they reflect important concepts that enterprises must leverage to stay competitive. We'll also see why portals are in fact very relevant today and a solid choice in a variety of use cases, including the ever-popular "social networking" phenomenon.
Finally, we will discuss why open source is particularly suited to portal-related use cases and some of the ways in which Liferay is trying to innovate in this space.
