Since the end of April release 1.1 of Apache has been publicly available in a test version, and then as Apache 1.1b2. Some of the interesting new features can be seen already. There isn't room here for a full list of all the new things... (there wasn't in the print medium anyway).
Status module: offers the option of showing information about the status of the server (http://www.my_server.com/status/): number and status of the children processes, number of accesses et cetera.
Keep alive support: permanent TCP link (HTTP 1.1) which allows several inquiries over the same connection (configurable).
UserDir: instead of a directory in the user's respective home directory, from version 1.1 a place in the WWW tree can be chosen.
Access to individual URLs: previously access to documents could be limited with a file usually called .htaccess. In addition, from version 1.1 it's possible to say which users can see individual documents. Instead of the <Directory> directory, <Location> is used.
Proxy/Cache: is currently at the experimental stage...
